Boy oh boy has this
week been busy! We had the awesome privilege having our Mission President,
Pres. Curtis and his wife come here and teach with us. We had lessons with Brenda and Sarah. We
taught about missionary work, service, teaching and learning in the church and
enduring to the end. Brenda has
recovered from being an alcoholic and has gained a deep testimony of the
gospel. She is happier than she ever has been and is doing great missionary
work by being "an example of the believers" (1 Timothy 4:12). With
Sarah, we helped her read and understand the Book of Mormon. Then we went with President and Sister Curtis to
visit a Young Men's Youth Conference that was held at one of the camps up here.
We shared our testimonies about missionary work and help train Young Men who
are preparing for missions how to be effective missionaries. I love being a
missionary!
On Friday we
rode with President and Sister Curtis to our Zone Meeting which is in Arco, ID
2.5 hours away! In the evening we taught Mckayla Brunson, 12, and her
grandmother Darlene Welkers! They live in Gooding, ID but are here for a couple
of weeks. We met them last week. Mckayla
has gone to church in Gooding a couple of times with a friend. Both loved to hear that the Gospel has been
restored here in our Latter-days. Mckayla has already started reading the Book
of Mormon!
Today for
P-day we took a hike up the mountain 8 miles round trip to Sawtooth Lake with a
couple of girls from the branch and Kevane Needham, from Jamaica who we are teaching!
It is incredible how much the terrain up here is the same as northern
Minnesota! The trees, creeks, lakes and
animals are the same, the only difference is the elevation! The mountains here
are so beautiful. I could never get old
of seeing them. I think I said this in
an earlier blog but I love being up here in the middle of God's untouched
creations which really helps me feel his love for me! It reminds me of a
passage from King Mosiah in the Book of Mormon.
" 9 Believe in God; believe that he is, and that
he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he
has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man
doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.
10 And again, believe that ye must repent of
your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask insincerity of
heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all
these things see that ye do them.
11 And again I say unto you as I
have said before, that as ye have come to the knowledge of the glory of God, or
if ye have known of his goodness and have tasted of his love… and
humble yourselves even in the depths of humility, calling on the
name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that
which is to come, which was spoken by the mouth of the angel.
12 And behold, I say unto you that if ye do this ye
shall always rejoice, and be filled with the love of God, and
always retain a remission of your sins; and ye shall grow in
the knowledge of the glory of him that created you, or in the
knowledge of that which is just and true."
The first two picture are from the hike to Sawtooth Lake. In the third picture we are with is the Bar Tender at Red Fish Lake. We are hoping to teach her soon. She is one of
the few full time residents of Stanley.
